History
In April 2020, Bizzilla (Malta Lace Guild) was set up by the first group of students attending Lacemaking Programme at the University of Malta, Gozo Centre under the course coordinator Mrs Consiglia Azzopardi.
In order to keep in line with its aims, the Guild started to publish a quarterly magazine, 'Is-Seher tal-Bizzilla'; its first issue was in July 2000. The magazine features a free pattern with every issue, together with articles associated with lace and textile crafts. It contains a Challenge, hints and tips for better workmanship and, often, a competition.
The Guild organizes workshops in various techniques of laces and other textile crafts, technical drawing and pattern making, which are open to members and non-members alike.
The main annual event has been Malta Lace Day sponsored by the Malta Crafts Council. It was successfully held since 15th September 2002 at Birkirkara Local Council, St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta, the Waterfront and at Casa Rocca Piccola, Valletta in conjunction with the Maltese Lace Competition exhibition. On the 10th anniversary it was held in the Green Rooms at the Phoenicia Hotel and has since been held at the Catholic Institute.
Unfortunately, Margaret Crocker, who had been in charge of the magazine from its beginning, was taken seriously ill and there was a break of about two years in Seher publications. Issue No 69 was resumed by the Spring 2019 Edition. It was decided upon the update of the magazine which would be reduced to two issues per year - Spring and Autumn. Hopefully in this manner the magazine would contain more articles and practical designs of general interest.
